There are a number of things that will work for most if not all search engines. But we only should be interested in the three main search engines: Google, Yahoo, and MSN. These search engines are responsible for over 90% of all internet searches.
We will show you what accepted practices of linking you can use to influence the search engines. Basically, there are four linking strategies that you can use to increase you website value in the eyes of the search engines. These techniques are reciprocal linking, one-way linking, multi-site linking and directory linking. You as a website owner should use all four strategies to help your search engine rankings.
The Four Natural Linking Strategies
- Reciprocal Linking = Site A links to Site B, Site B links back to Site A
- One-Way Linking = Site B links to Site A
- Multi-Site Linking = Site A links to Site B, Site B links to Site C, Site C links to Site D, and Site D links back to Site A. Could be 3..N number of sites involved.
- Directory Linking = Site Directory A links to Site A
This is when a website that links to you asks you to link back to it. These type of links increase your web site traffic, from people who click on the links. Also, reciprocal links help with your search engine rankings.
One-way links are links to your website without you having to link to them. This is a way of telling search engines that your website is so interesting and helpful that other website want to tell people about it.
All these four strategies take a lot of time and effort and sometimes you won't have the time to do all four. But you should always try to do your best.
Now doing the natural linking strategies listed above is great, but you have to be very careful and do it in a way that you do not get penalized by the search engines.
